The school does have educational programs which are mandatory for first-years about alcohol use.

I still don’t really understand how the University should further police the use of alcohol by persons of age. Yes, alcohol is dangerous. Yes, people who are under-21 try to get alcohol. But if a student is 21 and the state believes they are responsible enough to drink beer, wine, and liquor than they are. Just because you can’t have it in your room doesn’t mean you won’t drink the same things off campus, or that you’ll somehow become ‘more responsible’ in your drinking habits.

Instead education on alcoholism and how to drink responsibly can make a much bigger impact. News flash: you can drink hard liquor responsibly. Being of age, my parents don’t care if I drink hard liquor when I’m at home, because I have one drink while we sit around and talk after dinner. Also known as, not drinking to get drunk but drinking because I’d rather have scotch than wine. But a lot of students and the administration seems to believe that the only reason to have hard liquor is to get omgi’msoschwasted.

Really these kinds of policies are one of the reasons why the on-campus living requirement is the number one complaint about Trinity.

Who is going to protect students from hard liquor once they graduate or move off campus? Education, not prohibition, is the answer.
