The Tigers played three games this past weekend and went 1-2 on the road. Their first game was against LeTourneau in Longview, Texas.

Letourneau led the game 1-0 until the Tigers scored twice in the second inning to take the lead. Once the Tigers took over, LeTourneau was unable to catch up with the score ending at 9-5, Trinity.

The game on Saturday, Feb. 14, against Louisiana College was not as successful as Friday’s game. The Tigers suffered their first loss, 7-6.

“Our team did a good job of fighting to keep the games within reach for us to win. Unfortunately, it just wasn’t our weekend. I guess our poorest aspect of the game was just doing what needed to be done in the clutch moments, get a hit, make a play, make a pitch, etc. We have a lot of work to be done in all aspects of our game, so we have room for improvements everywhere,” said junior Brody Fehmel.

Sunday, the Tigers played the University of Texas-Tyler with another loss 4-2.

The team struggled to pull ahead as UT-Tyler held the lead 4-0 in the fifth inning.

Head Coach Tim Scannell was ejected in the bottom of fifth. Texas-Tyler won the game 4-2.

“We ran into three quality opponents, and definitely had our work cut out for us. We had both positives and negatives, which we can get away with in the second week of the season, but we need to tighten it up before playoffs,” said junior Colin Serkowski. “I believe we only had one error over the three game span, which is incredible. ”

The team has a long way to go until conference,  but there are still many games left until SCAC Championship  in early May at Southwestern University and University of Dallas. Last year the Tigers won conference after beating Texas Lutheran University 10-1 in the final game.

“I was happy with the preparation of guys leading up to the weekend, so I felt very confident they were ready to go. That being said, I think it has a long ways to go to be as loose and energetic as how we have been practicing the first few weeks of the season,” said pitching coach David Smith.

The team plays on Friday Feb. 19, Saturday Feb. 20 and Sunday, Feb. 21.
