The Department of Campus and Community Involvement is in the process of the finding a new employee for the position of Coordinator for Student Programs. A search committee composed of staff, faculty, and students are involved in interviewing and choosing the applicants.
Currently, there are four candidates undergoing campus interviews. After the interview process ends, the search committee will then make hiring recommendation. There is no set hiring deadline.
“We don’t have a deadline,†said Jamie Thompson, chair of the committee and Director of CCI. “While we’re currently bringing candidates to campus; it could be that we decide to bring more candidates to campus at a later date.â€
According to Thompson, candidates are expected to have at least a bachelors degree but a master degree is preferable and all applicants have had previous experience.
“Most have experience in the field of student affairs and in particular student activities, student programming or related areas,†Thompson said.
The job description of Coordinator for Student Programs involves advising the Student Programming Board and working with them to build and develop late night and weekend programming. The position also entails maintaining the student recognition process for almost 100 organizations.
The executives on the SPB were approached to be a part of the hiring process and were sent the candidates’ resumes and cover letters last week -only one step of the multi-panel interview hiring process.
“This decision directly affects us because whoever the coordinator is going to be our advisor,†said sophomore Deborah Kilpatrick, associate director for concerts on the SPB. “The student panel is a small hour of the whole day [for the candidates].â€
According to Dr. Angela Breidenstein, associate professor of education and member of the search committee, successful interaction with students is a part of the job description and applicants have applied from across the nation.
“This person could directly influence students’ development at Trinity,†Breidenstein said. “We are looking for someone who is eager to be directly involved with students as an advisor and as a mentor. Trinity has a really strong reputation in terms of developing the whole student … there are a lot of candidates that are eager to work at Trinity.â€
The hiring process is set to be completed by the end of the spring semester.
