The third-ranked womenâ€™s soccer team nabbed their 10th consecutive victory with an 8-0 win over Centenary College last Friday night in Shreveport, La. This win brings the team to 8-0 in Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) play.
The Lady Tigers set a season high in goals scored in their seventh consecutive shutout.
The Tigers got on the board quickly with an eventual game-winning goal from junior Maggie Olvera two minutes into the game. This was Olveraâ€™s fourth goal of the season.
All-Americans Kelsey Falcone and Emily Jorgens provided the assists for the eventual game winning goal.
Also scoring goals in the first half were sophomore Yasmeen Farra, senior Kelsey Falcone, freshman Julia Camp, and senior Hannah Kuhl.
Scoring goals in the second half were first-year Tiereny Thomison with one goal and sophomore Allison Carter with two goals.
â€œI was really happy with the way the team played; it feels like weâ€™re really coming together as a unit,â€ said first-year Meredith Licata.
The third-ranked Trinity Tigers took the momentum from their last victory to their Monday night home game versus Our Lady of the Lake.
The Tigers registered a 5-0-shutout victory over the Our Lady Of The Lake Armadillos.
The Tigers improved their record to 12-0-1 for the season and registered their eighth consecutive shutout for the season.
Leading the way for the Tigers was senior Emily Jorgens, who scored in the 17th minute on an assist from Farra.
â€œJorgens is always willing to step up to the plate and put in the big goals, her actions empower the team to work hard from the start of the match to the final whistle,â€ said sophomore keeper Dana McLaghlin.
Two minutes later Olvera scored goal in the 18th minute of play on an assist from Jorgens. This goal brought the score to 2-0 at halftime.
The Tigers kicked off the second half with a goal from Olvera in the 53rd minute.
Also scoring in the second half were ophomore Allison Carter, and sophomore Brigitte Taylor.
â€œI am very pleased with the way weâ€™ve been playing lately I feel we have hit a nice little stride during this last 10-day stretch,â€ said head coach Lance Key.
The Tigers play at 7 p.m. today in Shreveport, La against Centenary College.
After that game the ladies have a week break until they play Schreiner (Texas) away at 4 p.m. on Oct. 17 and then again on Oct. 19 against Texas Lutheran away at 2 p.m.
