Now that school is well underway, assignments and tests pouring in like clockwork, the staff of The Trinitonian thought it would be apropos to create a list that would help facilitate your procrastination. Here are some of the biggest, most exciting, best games released so far. You’re welcome.

Max Payne 3 (PC, PS3, X360) ““ A game brought to you by Rockstar, makers of Grand Theft Auto and Red Dead Redemption, Max Payne 3 is sort of a reboot, albeit within the same timeline and some all-new cover mechanics. The Max Payne series staples, like the slow-motion diving/shooting, are still very present “” and oh how satisfying it is even after all these years. Oh, and the story is really emotional and well-crafted too. If you care about something more than shooting dudes’ faces off. In slow motion. While you’re diving in the air.

Mass Effect 3 (PC, PS3, X360) ““ Mass Effect 3 is the epic sci-fi, RPG, space opera, character novel, massive nerdgasm from Bioware, creators of Dragon Age and Knights of the Old Republic. Commander Shepard’s satisfying journey and fight against the Reapers is resolved, though not very satisfyingly. If you’re even remotely interested in characters and story, this is the game to play this year.

Diablo III (PC, MAC) ““ Yes, this is still a game with a three at the end. The Diablo series is one of the best-selling series of all time; should I even talk about this game? If you haven’t already spent hundreds of hours on this game (hey, roommate!), then, aside from technical issues that Blizzard is striving to fix, there isn’t any other game out there that can fill that epic armor set-shaped hole in your heart like Diablo III can.

Tribes: Ascend (PC) ““ The crazy mechanic that sets Tribes: Ascend apart, aside from it being completely free to play, is the mechanic of going down a hill really fast then shooting upwards (i.e. ascending) really, really fast and really, really high. It takes a while to get used to the loose feel of the controls, but this is the most fun I’ve had with any first-person shooter.

The Walking Dead (PC, MAC, PS3, X360, iOS) ““ Everybody get on the zombie train. The Walking Dead has a different story from the comic and TV show that it shares its name with, but it’s set in the same universe. The game is a slowly-paced, point-and-click adventure game, yet it’s full of twists and action. The experience is akin to watching a car crash in slow motion (slow motion is all the rage these days). It is bloody and so very delicious.
Journey (PS3) ““  Personally, this is my favorite game of the year. “Journey” is a unique experience that makes you feel emotions most games don’t normally elicit. It isn’t for everybody necessarily, but I think everybody should try it.

With impending doom and gloom rushing towards us like a speeding alcoholic, there won’t be any other video games entering the new list for the latter half of the year (my apologies to Treyarch, the developers of Call of Duty: Yet Another Entry 2). So enjoy your last few weeks squandering time with your family, friends and education while you farm for more loot!
