First of all, writing a senior column is difficult. There are so many things I want to say about my experiences at Trinity, but unfortunately there is not enough space in the paper. Anyways, I will try to sum all this up as best as I can. Here we go.
This upcoming June, I am moving to the Mississippi Delta for Teach For America. I don’t know about any of y’all, but I have not been to the state, nor do I know anyone living in the state. To top things off, I will be teaching in a rural area. I have lived in the greater Houston area all my life and I went to college in San Antonio. I don’t know the meaning of rural.
However, I am so excited to embark on this new journey. Despite venturing out into the unknown, I am confident that Trinity has prepared me well. Throughout my four years here, I have cried, laughed, struggled and cheered. I have seen several organizations develop and change for the better and I know they will only get better with time. I have truly grown as a person, but I would not be who I am today without the caring faculty, amazing staff and my phenomenal peers that encourage me to work harder each and every day. I am truly blessed. The least I can do is give a sincere thank you to the people who have made my life at Trinity unforgettable.
To my parents and family: Thank you for support, love, care, encouragement, prayers, faith, etc. I truly would not be where I am today without you.
To TigerTV: Erin Dooley, James Bynum, Jack Newman, Andrew Rieger, Erin Curtis, Don Dimick, Matt Prendergast and the rest of the crew”¦ thank you for making TigerTV one of the best things that has ever happened to me.
To the communication, sociology, and Spanish department faculty: Thank you for teaching me how to see the world.
To APO, Campus & Community Involvement, McNair Scholars Program, I <3 Kenny, BSU and everyone else: Although I can’t name everyone, please know that this article is for everyone who has helped me along the way. I would need a whole Trinitonian to thank you all. Paul Cuclis, Emily Shiraki, my McLean 2nd nerds, and the rest of my amazing friends, thank you for putting up with my craziness. You have been there during my brightest and darkest moments.
I love you all more than words can describe”¦ I will now stop before I start crying.
Some advice to all Trinity students: Make these years your own. Whether you get involved with one thing or six things, take this opportunity to make your mark any way you can. Trinity will give you a lot of love, but only if you let it!
