Life is made up of good and bad decisions, decisions that you are proud of and decisions that you regret. It is this mix of decisions that shapes your life. I can’t say that I have made only good decisions because I would be lying. I have made more than a handful of poor decisions, which at first I regretted, but looking back I don’t. I’ve learned from them and they have made me who I am today. However, I am going to focus on some of the good decisions I’ve made in order to sum up my Trinity experience.
One of the best decisions I’ve made was my decision to attend Trinity University. This decision was based on a gut feeling: I had never visited Trinity, and I had actually never been to Texas before. My first time in Texas was when my parents dropped me off for orientation. I came to Trinity not knowing anyone, except for the people I awkwardly talked to on Facebook before arriving. I stalked my new roommate and we just seemed very different, and somehow we were expected to get along and share the same room. Who would have known that she would become one of my closest friends and that she would continue to be my roommate all four years! Trinity has become a second home to me, and I am going to miss its bubble. Trinity has allowed me to grow and mature. It has opened my eyes, and it has opened a door of endless opportunities (not a job, though). Most importantly, it has given me the opportunity to be myself. I have met great people, had an awesome time here, and learned a lot. I can’t imagine myself anywhere but Trinity.
Another good decision I’ve made is joining Sigma Theta Tau sorority. Even though I was very hesitant, I am glad I did. I can’t picture my Trinity experience without Sigmas. I have met wonderful young ladies who I admire and respect, many of whom I call my best friends. Sigmas have given me endless friendship and support. Being part of this diverse group of people has provided experiences that have helped me learn more about myself, as well as break out of my shell (believe it or not I used to be shy). I am not only grateful for all the people I have met within Sigmas, but also all the people I met because of them. This includes both Greek and non-Greek friends that I have made along the way who have enriched my Trinity experience.
The third best decision I’ve made was studying abroad. I am grateful I got this opportunity not only because I met a bunch of cool people and traveled around Europe, but also because it was a great eye-opener. During my time abroad, I realized the importance of true friendship and how I already have this at Trinity. I guess I had to be thousands of miles away to realize how much I love Trinity and all my friends here.
Overall my time at Trinity has been a blast and there is nothing I would change about it. None of this would have been possible without the unconditional love and support of my parents and family, los quiero mucho! A big thank you to all the amazing friends and professors that have guided and believed in me. So for all those not graduating, the only advice I have is to enjoy your time at Trinity. It goes by faster than you think. Try to find a balance between academics and fun. Most importantly, stay true to who you are and make the most out of your time here.
