The Student Government Association (SGA) held its first meeting this past Tuesday, Jan. 22, in the Waxahachie room of the Coates University Center.
While the meeting primarily covered procedures the organization follows throughout the year, the SGA senators were assigned to their respective committees, and the association hopes to begin addressing student organizations’ requests for support and funding for various projects to benefit the student body.
The four committees that make up the SGA as a whole are the Student Life, Academic Affairs, Student Activity Fee Allocations and Oversight and Rules Committees. The meeting this past Tuesday was mainly oriented toward setting up the association’s four committees so that they can address requests in the future, as well as introducing the funding process to this years’ senators.
At the end of the meeting, the floor was opened up so that Senators could voice recommendations for the coming months, and the association has decided to focus on bringing their voice to students on a personal basis as well as speaking with groups on campus.
As such, the SGA reminds all students that they are welcome to attend the meetings on Tuesdays at 8 p.m. in order to witness the association work and interact with its members after the meeting is adjourned. More information regarding when the SGA will be open to proposals will be included in the Trinitonian when it becomes available.
