The Trinity women’s golf team is this year’s SCAC Champions. The last title the women won was in 1995. After a two-round tournament from April 20-22 at Tapatio Springs Hill Country Resort & Spa Golf Course, the 12th-ranked Tigers won with a total score of 646.

The Tigers also had good individual performances, with sophomore Brigette Lee recording a total score of 159 to finish in third place. After Lee, freshman Hanna Niner and freshman  Christine Campbell tied for fourth place in a three-way tie with a total score of 162. Following them, sophomore Madeline Moran tied for 7th place after shooting 183 overall, and then junior Alessa Hutter came in 17th place after shooting 179. These finishes helped Lee, Campbell, and Niner make the All-SCAC First Team. Niner also won the SCAC Freshman of the Year Award. Moran made All-SCAC Second Team.

“Southwestern has been one of our biggest rivals, so we were all really happy to beat them at conference,” Campbell said.

Now the Tigers wait to see if they receive a bid to play in the NCAA DII National Championships, held in Howey-in-the-Hills, Florida, from May 13-16. Usually the team that wins the conference would automatically receive a bid, but for that to happen the conference needs to have a minimum of six teams, and currently the SCAC only has five women’s golf teams.

“We are anxious to go to nationals. Southwestern won conference last year and got a bid even though we were ranked higher than they were,” Hutter said.

The Tiger men, who are ranked 19th in the nation, ended up with a second-place finish in the three-round tournament with an overall score of 887. Senior captain Tyler Lehmann was named to the all-SCAC first team, while senior captain Erik Long-Goheen and junior Kalen Vos made the second team.

“Overall we played pretty well.  We had a few real low scores and nothing above 78 for three rounds, which is solid.  We played smart and we all played decently well in this tournament,” Lehmann said.
