The team took on the Southwestern University Pirates last Saturday in Georgetown, Texas.

The 38-18 road win brings the Tigers to 3-6 overall, and was the largest margin of victory for the Tigers this season.

The Tigers were the first on the board. The touchdown scoring play was set up by a career best 64-yard run by junior running back Jeremy Simmons.

The 80-yard scoring drive was capped by a four-yard touchdown run by senior quarterback Mason Blaschke, at the end of the first quarter.

The second score of the half came from a 60-yard touchdown drive capped by a two-yard touchdown run by junior Jeremy Simmons.

This drive put the Tigers up 14-0 at halftime.

“It felt good to be up at halftime, but we were very focused on finishing the game,” said first year Jordan Williams.

Turnovers plagued both sides during the third quarter. The Tigers committed three turnoversand the Trinity defense forced a fumble and interception in the third.

“It was good to see the defense working hard to create turnovers,” said sophomore Julian Turner.

The Pirates struck first in the third quarter with a 42-yard touchdown drive.

The Tigers answered the score in a major way with a 90-yard kickoff return for a touchdown. This was the first kickoff return for a touchdown for Trinity  since 2008.

The Pirates soon committed another turnover that set the Tigers up for a short touchdown caught by senior wide reciever Matthew Kennemer bringing the score to 38-12.

The Tigers scored two more times before the end of the game.

The first score came on a 39-yard field goal by Payton Kisor. The second came by way of a touchdown pass  from senior quarterback Robert Broyles to junior wide reciever Chaz Davis.

The Tigers won the game 38-13.

“Overall the game was a success. We fought hard and showed everyone what can happen when everyone is on the same page,” Williams said.

Leading the offense was junior running back Jeremy Simmons.

Simmons had one of the best rushing performances in Trinity history, rushing for 215 yards on just 24 carries, which ties the ninth highest total in school history.

Senior Jai Boatman led the Trinity defense with eight total tackles. Sophomore Joshua Cook and Turner both had 6 tackles on the day. First year Alejandro Anzaldua recorded five total tackles, 3.5 tackles for loss and a sack.

The Tigers will play their final game of the seasopn at 1p.m. on Saturday against Austin College at the football field.
