Trinity softball returns for the 2015 season this weekend with two home games.  The girls finished their 2014 season 25-18 after losing to Texas Lutheran in the SCAC Championship.

“Our main goal for this season is to win our conference tournament. Having so many new faces, we are working to improve our team chemistry and trust on the field,” said head coach Brandi Crnkovic. “We have a ton of young talent and great senior leaders, if the girls play to the best of their abilities I know we can go far.”

The team has struggled against the Bulldogs in the past; however, they remain optimistic in hopes of redeeming themselves this season.

“I think one of our biggest challenges will be staying strong as a team and just trying to finish,” said sophomore first baseman and pitcher Katie Glomb. “I think we look really strong, our batting looks really good. It’s been hard to practice outside with the rain, but when we do, we look like a team, which is really good.”

Although they are a young team, the Tigers are optimistic for a successful season.

“We have a lot of young, new players. We have six freshmen,” said Hilary Hoffman, a returning sophomore second baseman and outfielder. “The team’s defense looks strong for the season, we have our returning pitcher and catcher, while our shortstop and third baseman are freshmen.”

The team is scheduled to have games this coming weekend, but then will have a month break before they play the rest of their games. Their focus before the rest of their games start is to frequently practice and focus on balancing both school and softball.

“Our biggest challenge will be staying consistent this season. We would play well one game and not play as well the next, which really hurt us,” said Hoffman.

They hope to remain steady in their playing in order to continue their four-year streak of returning to the conference championship. The softball team’s motivation is to win the conference championship for the chance to go to regionals.

Their first two games are at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 7 at home.

The Trinity baseball team also starts their season this weekend. The Tigers have high hopes for 2015.

During the preseason, they were the favored team to capture the SCAC baseball title for the 2015 season after competing well in fall games. The team played Oklahoma University in October, where they competed well against the Division I university. They were in the game for about eight innings and played well. Although they lost, the game was an overall good determinant for the season.

“If we take what we learned from that game into the season, we should be fine,” said Jeremy Wolf, a junior outfielder. “I think we look better than we’ve looked since I’ve been here. I think top to bottom we are more competitive. We have ten great hitters and overall we are finally a team.”

The team ended their 2014 season 33-10 with expectations of winning the SCAC Conference Championship.

The team plans not to  play down to the competition as they progress.

They believe that their biggest competition is themselves. They have some strong athletes on the team, many of them holding athletic honors.

Trinity Baseball expects another successful season with a Conference Championship for their second year in a row and a chance to win regionals.

Their season starts this weekend with a game at 3:00 p.m. Friday, Feb. 6, and a double header at 12:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 7, here at Trinity.
