As of last Thursday, Trinity students, as well as members of the San Antonio community have the opportunity of viewing “The Structurals,” a mixed media art exhibition in the Michael and Noemi Neidorff art gallery in the Dicke/ Smith building. The exhibition features the work of a renowned New York artist, Amy Yoes, and contains sculptures and dynamic black-and-white collages.
Chair of the department of art and art history, Liz Ward, has been instrumental in organizing the exhibition. She says that this exhibition is valuable to Trinity students and to the university as it expands viewers’s knowledge of culture and provides an opportunity to learn.
“I think the opportunity to expand the cultural life of the university and to see new and exciting contemporary work is great,” Ward said. “It’s a great teaching show and is great for students to learn and develop ideas of their own.”
Yoes’s, art has been featured in several venues including the National Gallery of Art in Washington, D.C.
“The Structurals” is a mixed media exhibit that contains collages displayed adjacent to each other that convey a visual narrative. The exhibit also features four sculptures.
“Any student interested in seeing exciting visual art would be engaged by the show. The sculptures are really innovative and playful,” Ward said. “They are inventive and fresh. This exhibit provides an opportunity for students to experience art in a way that they probably normally wouldn’t be able to outside of Trinity.”
The Structurals will be on view during gallery hours, Tuesday through Saturday 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. through March 28. It is open to the public and admission is free. Yoes will be giving a Stieren lecture on March 19 immediately followed by a public reception.
