The Trinity women’s soccer team received a great honor when two of their players, Emily Jorgens and Kelsey Falcone, were awarded NCAA Postgraduate Scholarships worth $7,500 for use at an accredited graduate program.
Jorgens lead all Division III women’s players with 27 assists during 2014, and added on 19 goals. Jorgens finishes her career at Trinity with 59 total goals and 88 assists, both numbers good enough to be the best in Trinity women’s soccer history. Falcone lead the Tigers in scoring this year with 20 goals, and added 15 assists in her final year at Trinity. Both women were selected to the All-SCAC team this year. Jorgens has been selected to the NCAA Division III All-American team four times, while Falcone has two selections of her own.
Jorgens’ and Falcone’s success on the field is matched by their success in the classroom. Jorgens is an accounting major and holds a 4.0 GPA and plans to attend the University of Texas at Austin to obtain her master’s in accounting.
“It’s a great honor for me to be offered this scholarship, and it kind of functions as the culmination of my time at Trinity, both academically and with soccer,” Jorgens said.
Falcone plans to study medicine at the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston; she is majoring in biology and communication and has a GPA of 3.63.
“It’s a huge honor to be recognized for this prestigious scholarship, but I think it’s even more amazing that Emily and I were able to be honored and represent Trinity together. And, obviously, the scholarship award will be a huge help financially,” Falcone said.
Both women were selected to the Capital One Academic All-American Team.
The team advanced to the round of 16 during the 2014 campaign and ended with an overall record of 22-1-1 after winning the SCAC championship for the sixth straight year. Both girls reminisced fondly about their time at Trinity.
“I’m going to miss a lot of things. For one, I already miss seeing the girls every day and all of their families over the weekend. They’re such amazing people and it’s hard not seeing them on a daily basis. I am also going to really miss the competitive environment. I’m going to have to find a new way to channel my competitiveness,” Falcone said.
A total of 36 Tiger student athletes have been awarded postgraduate scholarships. Trinity ranks in the top 10 of Division III postgraduate award presentations.
