Counseling Services moves to across campus

This June, Counseling Services made the move to the Halsell Center from Coates University Center. The move was a result of a need for space after several other big moves this past summer.

“With the Trinity Tomorrow Strategic Plan, the university wanted to create space for the Center for Experiential Learning and Career Success, to put all of those folks involved in that all in one location,” said Richard Reams, associate director of counseling services.

While the move places counseling services further from the residential halls, it comes with some benefits.

“It’s as far from dorms as you can get, but I like to tell people we are worth the walk,” Reams said. “We are close to classrooms, and so perhaps when students make appointments, they might want to do so in between classes. It does give them more privacy perhaps than our old location.”

Despite the recent move, the location at Halsell is not set to last.

“This is a temporary location. We expect to be here, we’re told, a year and a half to two years. We are hoping to get back into Coates University Center somewhere,” Reams said.

Counseling services provides Trinity students a place to go if they are struggling with depression, anxiety, stress or just need to talk.

According to the Trinity University website, Counseling Services “compassionately provides assistance at no cost to Trinity students and those who care about them.”

“It can be nice talking to someone you don’t have to live with,” Reams said. “You don’t have to worry that you’re going to worry your parents.”

Counseling Services has walk in hours Monday through Friday between 3 and 4:30 p.m. on a first-come-first-seen basis. Appointments can also be made in person in Halsell 201 or by calling (210) 999-7411.
