News brief: Flooding on campus
City Vista saw eight occupied units flooded due to a ruptured sprinkler line on Monday. The pipe burst due to the extreme weather conditions affecting the entire San Antonio area this week. The main water line coming into the building was impacted and CV is currently without water as of Feb. 17. Facilities Services expects water to be restored by Wednesday evening. Students living in CV have also reported a drain pipe freeze and rupture in the garage.
Students were not required to evacuate, but the school arranged for a block of 100 rooms at the DoubleTree Hilton on West Cesar Chavez to be available free of charge to displaced students if they choose to relocate. Two CV residents have reported that while the Doubletree Hilton has power, it does not have running water. The Bell Center locker rooms and outdoor pool showers were made available to students living on-campus who are without water as a restroom and shower facility.
On-campus residential students have been instructed by Residential Life through email to prepare for potential power and water outages due to the extreme weather conditions. If students experience an outage within business hours, they are instructed to submit a service request to Facilities Services. Outside of business hours, students should call TUPD to report outages. In the event Mabee should lose power, Dining Services will provide students with grab-and-go food options. Trinity is also working with hotels in the area to find available rooms for on-campus students who may become displaced, Residential Life reported in an email to residential students.
