Last Friday Sept. 20 at roughly 7:40 p.m., students across campus reported three power surges happening in quick succession.
Electricity was quickly restored on campus, however outages in the Olmos Park area persisted for nearly 2,000 customers for about two hours. The outage was resolved around 9:45 p.m.
Around the same time, there was another outage affecting roughly 500 customers near Woodmont and Perrin Park.
Some Trinity students speculated that the university mitigated the effects of the area outage by using backup generators, but these rumors are unconfirmed.
CPS Energy (CPS) had warned customers on X (formerly Twitter) at 2:30 p.m. on Sept. 20 to be conservative with power as a result of extreme heat. CPS and Texas at large have faced criticism in recent years for the state’s power grid struggling to handle extreme weather.
