CLIMATE CHECK
First-year Senator John De Hoyos brought up students’ concerns over rodents and vultures in Albert Herff-Beze Residence Hall and Harold D. Herndon Residence Hall. The vulture, which Senator De Hoyos nicknamed “Victor,” goes through the trash and often leaves messes that aren’t cleaned for multiple days, which causes the area to smell. He is going to reach out to Allison Sommers and Gaje Wiseman to resolve the issue.
First-year senator Pilar Mier shared that the sidewalk beside the loading dock for Mabee Dining Hall stinks. Chief of Staff Harrison Tinker stated that the issue isn’t new to Trinity University and that the area was known as “Appetite Alley” in the 90s because of the stench. Mier is reaching out to Ernesto Gonzalez for assistance.
President Joy Areola requested that somebody start communicating with the city and TUPD to ensure that the crosswalk to City Vista is properly illuminated at night, ensuring students’ safety. Senior Senator Johnny Kousa volunteered to assist.
OFFICER REPORTS
President Areola requested that students interested in participating in SGA next year consider shadowing the positions they’re looking at, especially for cabinet positions.
Chief of Staff Tinker asked current members of SGA if they would be willing to shadow him to serve in the University Curriculum Council next academic year. The student UCC member has to be nominated from SGA. UCC is in charge of issues such as pathway changes, course creations and deletions, major and minor requirements and all other curriculum changes.
Chief of Staff Tinker also noted that there were multiple responses to a form SGA administered while tabling, and that a recurring issue students mentioned was parking. Junior Senator Orlando Ventura volunteered to follow up with the issue.
