The Trinity women’s soccer team traveled to Claremont, Calif. this past weekend, where the team finished with one tie game and their first shutout match of the season.

The sixth-ranked Tigers took on the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Athenas at Pritzlaft Field, where the game concluded with a tied score of 1-1. Trinity first-year forward Endaisia Love scored the Tigers goal in the 81st minute of play, as the game was evened at 1-1. Love’s first shot was blocked a minute and a half prior to the goal, her first of the season.

“The most exciting thing this weekend was the feeling after we scored in our games. We worked so hard to get that point, and, when we finally succeeded, it was great.  The feeling of being a part of a team is amazing,” Love said.

Claremont struck first, with a goal by Elizabeth Augustine just two minutes into the game. Trinity had three shots on goal in the two overtime periods, with two from junior midfielder Kelsey Falcone, and one from junior midfielder Emily Jorgens, but the goalkeeper saved both. Falcone recorded 10 shots, with five of them on goal in the game.

Jorgens was also named SCAC offensive player of the week.

“Being named SCAC offensive player of the week was a great honor. I am so grateful to be on such an amazing team with a wonderful group of girls and coaching staff, because I would not be successful without them.  Both the team and the honor push me to further challenge myself and continue to improve every week,” Jorgens said.

Junior goalkeeper Devan Osegueda made four saves in the match-up. Trinity posted 29 total shots, with 12 on goal. Claremont had 10 shots, and five directly at the goal.

The weekend concluded with the first shutout of the season with a 2-0 victory over the Chapman Panthers.

The first scoring play of Sunday’s game came in the 67th minute, as senior forward Shelby Guenthardt produced a goal on an assist from Love. Guenthardt made two shots in the game, both of which were on goal. Slightly over four minutes later, Falcone added her second goal of the campaign.

Osegueda, who played for 77 minutes, recorded another four saves in the shutout. Osegueda was replaced by junior goalkeeper Lauren Goldberg, who finished out the match-up.

The Tigers had an overwhelming advantage in total shots, leading Chapman 32-5. Trinity also led 15-4 in shots on goal.

“We enter each game with the mindset to play our best, regardless of the opponent. We always seek to play to a standard of excellence and this goal motivates us to constantly push ourselves,” said assistant women’s soccer coach Owen Collie.

Trinity returns home to host a pair of games next weekend, starting with Texas-Tyler at 7 p.m. today. The Tigers then play Texas-Dallas at 2 p.m. Sunday. The Tigers will play their first conference game at home at 6 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 20 against Texas Lutheran. The Tigers will be at home for their next six games and for nine of their next 10 games before spending the rest of the season on the road leading up to the SCAC tournament in Seguin, Texas.
