On Friday evening, Trinity men’s soccer played Centenary College, coming out with an 8-0 win. This was followed by a Sunday night performance against Austin College, which also concluded with a 7-0 win. Both matches were at home.

On Friday evening, the Tiger men tied for a season high in goals scored for one game. Roberto Camargo scored the first two goals of the evening both early in the first half, with the initial goal being scored twelve minutes in, followed by the second at the twenty-minute point. Darren McAfee, Jeff Hayes, Goncalo Santana and Raz Forsten also scored goals, putting the Tigers in the lead 6-0 at halftime.

In the second half of the Friday evening match, two goals were scored, coming from Emmanuel Ranranje and Brian Hines, both within a mere two minutes of each other. This put Hines in the lead for number of goals scored this season for the Tigers, and finished off the game 8-0.

Despite this victory, assistant coach Chesley Farmer said, “As a team, we need to improve our efficiency in front of goal. Chances to score continue to present themselves, but there are many times in the game when we squander opportunities in front of goal.”

Following this victory, the Tigers regrouped on their home turf Sunday evening, where they shut out the Austin College Kangaroos. This was the team’s fourth straight shutout victory.

Victor Araujo led with the first goal of the game in the 21st minute””a penalty kick and the only goal of the first half. This was Araujo’s third goal this season.

“We had a lot of subs come in to score goals throughout the game. This showed that we don’t just have one or two big players; really the whole team is very good,” Araujo said.

The goals of the second half of the game began in the 56th minute and continued until there were four minutes left on the clock. These shots were made by McAfee, Hayes, Yuri Ribeiro, Santana, Todd Edwards and Jorge Villamarin, who finished off with the final goal of the game, leaving the score at a 7-0 victory for the Tigers.

“We are playing well. We had some issues in the beginning of the season, but we worked them out and I think we’re only going up from here,” said senior starter McAfee.

On Friday, Trinity will be traveling to Irving, Texas to compete against the University of Dallas at 2 p.m. This is followed by a conference matchup on Sunday afternoon against Colorado College.
