Volleyball ends year with weekend split

Last Friday and Saturday, Nov. 1-2, the 14th ranked Tiger volleyball team went to Atlanta, Ga. to compete in the Emory National Invitational. While at the tournament, the Tigers went 2-2, recording wins against Berry (Ga.) and Cortland St. (N.Y.) on Friday. They then lost to 6th ranked Emory (Ga.) and 9th ranked Juniata (Pa.) on Saturday. Last year, Juniata knocked Trinity out of the playoffs.

This tournament wrapped up the team’s successful regular season and left them with a 31-6 record overall. Next weekend, Nov. 8-9, the Tigers will host the SCAC Conference Championships.

The players and coaching staff are very confident going into conference championships and feel as though they can compete well and continue their season into regionals and nationals.

“Some of our preseason expectations have been met, but we always strive to keep reaching bigger goals, never limiting our sites as our season progresses. We’ve been proud of what we’ve accomplished so far, but we are in no way finished with the job,” said assistant coach Aly Hazelwood.

Sophomore Megan Reynolds agrees with Hazelwood that the team has further to go and thinks that the team has the potential of advancing deep into the NCAA playoffs.

“Then we want to advance to the elite eight and beyond,” Reynolds said.

The team intends to retain their momentum well into the postseason.

“Our expectations are to just keep winning,” Hazelwood said.

Though everyone on the team knows that the job is not done, Reynolds acknowledges that the season has gone well so far.

“Our season has been great. We are doing well and winning games we should be,” Reynolds said.

The SCAC tournament begins Friday, Nov. 8 and continues through Saturday, Nov. 9. The Tigers play their first game against Centenary at 11 a.m. on Friday.

Regionals begin after the SCAC Conference Championship on Nov. 15. Following regionals are the quarterfinals on Nov. 21, then the semifinals on Nov. 22, and it all ends with the championship on Nov. 23 in Holland, Michigan.
