The Trinity women’s soccer team traveled to Georgia this weekend to take on Emory University (Ga.) and Berry College (Ga.).

They finished with a 1-1 draw against seventh-ranked Emory after two overtimes of play Friday, Sept. 5 night. On Sunday, Sept. 7 they played Berry College and came away with the first complete-game shutout of the season with a 4-0 win.

Against Emory, senior midfielder Kelsey Falcone headed in the only goal for the Tigers in the 58th minute of play off a cross from the middle of the field by junior midfielder Kimberly Polasek.

“It was good to see such a positive response from our team; we were able to come back and tie up the game.” said senior midfielder Emily Jorgens, “That was a really good building experience for the team.”

Against Berry, Jorgens opened the game with a goal in the eighth minute with an assist from Falcone. The Tigers went up 2-0 in the 27th minute off of a goal by sophomore midfielder Yasmeen Farra with an assist by Polasek.

“Against Berry, we came out harder and put the pressure on them early with the early goal,” Jorgens said.

In the second half, sophomore forward/midfielder Hannah Hommel and junior midfielder Maggie Olvera combined for a goal in the 79th minute. Olvera then scored on her own in the 83rd minute with another assist from Falcone.
