On Friday, Sept. 12 and Sunday, Sept. 14 the Trinity Tigers Women’s soccer team traveled to Tyler and Dallas where the team ended with two wins.

The third-ranked Tigers took on the UT Tyler Patriots in the first game of the weekend. The Patriots scored first with a goal in the 37th minute.

The Tigers were behind for about a minute until junior center-midfielder Emily Donnan scored a goal in the 38th minute.

The game remained until  halftime. In the 59th minute, All-American forward Kelsey Falcone and All-American forward Emily Jorgens connected for the eventual game winner.

“We were happy to win the game, but we never lost focus because we knew we had another worthy opponent to play on Sunday,” said sophomore midfielder Jordan Leeper.

The Tigers outshot the Patriots 28-6, but the Patriots stayed in the game with 12 saves.

“I was very proud of the effort the team put forth, but would like to see an increase in efficiency throughout the game. As a team, we earn every opportunity we get, and I want to make sure our opponents also earn their opportunities as well,” said Lance Key, head coach.

Later that weekend the Lady Tigers traveled to Richardson to take on the UT Dallas Comets.

The team finished off their weekend road trip with a 2-1 overtime victory against the Comets.

The game was scoreless until Falcone scored a goal in the 50th minute of the second half on a pass from Yasmeen Farra.

The Tigers were up 1-0 until the Comets scored a goal that would eventually send the match into overtime with 22 minutes left in the game.

Three minutes into overtime, Meredith Licata scored the eventual game winning goal on a pass from Jorgens.

“Scoring the game-winning goal was an amazing feeling. I am so happy I was able to help get the win for Trinity,” Licata said.

With this win, the Tigers improve their season record to 4-0-1, but fall down a position in the NSCAA Coaches poll to the No. 3 position behind Washington University (Mo) and Messiah College (Penn.).

Next up for the team are two away games today and Sunday, Sept. 21, followed by a game against University of Mary Hardin-Baylor at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 23, at home.
