Thursday, Oct. 8, the volleyball team traveled to Austin to take on nonconference opponent Concordia University (Texas). They won the match with a 29-27, 25-18, 25-18 sweep.

“The first set was really close. I think it was mainly because we were making a few more errors than usual,” said senior middle blocker Erin Cusenbary. “Once we got those under control for the second and third sets, we did great.”

Senior outside hitter Maggie Emodi led the way with 18 kills, nine digs, three aces and a hitting percentage of .441 in the match.

“Maggie Emodi, I think, had her best match of the season thus far,” said head coach Julie Jenkins, “For her to have 18 kills in three games that is pretty dominating.”

Junior Shannon Courtney led the team in digs with 12 and recorded three assists and two aces as well. First-year middle blocker Rebecca Hayes had five blocks while Cusenbary recorded three in three games.

The team also finished with a total of eight aces in the match. Sophomore designated server Natalie Perez was key, contributing 2 aces in the match.

With the win, they move to 16-5 overall and 6-1 in conference. They are tied for first place in SCAC with Colorado College (Co.) and Southwestern University ( Texas).

“Your goal when you play everyone the second go around is to beat them more soundly than you did the first go around. We’re going to know what to expect and I think it is going to be some great volleyball,” Jenkins said.

At 6 p.m. tonight, the Tigers will take Southwestern. At 12:30 p.m., tomorrow, the Tigers play Schreiner University (Texas), and Texas Lutheran University(Texas) at 5 p.m.. All the games at home.
