Trinity hosted the Alamo City Classic Oct. 20-21 at the Quarry Golf Club. The men won and women’s tea, finished fifth at the event. It was the last even of the fall season for both teams.

The Trinity men finished three strokes ahead of the runner-up with a two-day total of 581, and shot a final round 292.

Concordia University finished second with an overall total of 584. Hardin-Simmons University finished third overall with a two-day total of 587. The University of Houston-Victoria came in fourth with a two-day total of 595. Texas Lutheran University placed fifth with a two-day total of 600. McMurry University and Texas Lutheran University “B” team (617 each) tied for sixth place. George Fox University finished eighth with a two-day total of 623, and the Trinity “B” team finished in ninth place with an overall total of 629.

Sophomore transfer Diego Trevino finished one stroke behind the first-place finisher for third place overall.

Trevino also earned Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Golfer of the week.

“I feel like this win was essential to get the team motivated. We will come back stronger and ready to win more come spring season,” Trevino said.

The Tiger Women’s golf team shot a final round 321 for a fifth place finish in the tournament.

“This was our first time playing at the Quarry, which is our home course, so it was a lot of fun to play at a course that we always practice at. The team has gotten a lot closer this year, so I feel like every tournament we have a blast,” said sophomore Hanna Niner.

The Tigers’ fifth-place team finish bested Concordia University (680), the University of Texas at Brownsville (682), Trinity “B” team (687), and Texas Lutheran University (752).

The University of Houston Victoria won the tournament with a two round total of 633.

“We’ve taken away a lot of positives from this semester, and we know what we need to work on during the offseason,” junior Brigette Lee said.

The men’s team will return to action Feb. 16-17 at the Linda Lowery Invitational in Austin, Texas. The women’s team begins again on March 2-3 in Kerville, Texas in the Schreiner Spring Shootout.
