The following covers the three-hour-long meeting on Nov. 6.

CLIMATE CHECK

Sophomore senator Noor Rahman expressed frustration about the new reserved parking spots in Prassel Garage.

Junior senator Claire Carlson asked about an email she received from an unaffiliated person that threatened her and other SGA members for their decision last semester concerning a resolution to remove Chick-fil-A from campus. Senior and president Ty Tinker explained that he was not concerned by the threat and that multiple other people received a similar email from a different name.

FUNDING REQUESTS

This month, there are nine funding requests, the largest amount seen in a single month in the past five years, according to Tinker.

YOUNG LIFE

Young Life staff member Jacob Cole and senior Hannah Burnett, president of Trinity’s Young Life chapter, requested reimbursement for two events — a high school trip with volunteer leaders from Trinity and a camp trip for college-level Young Life members.

For the high school trip, which was Oct. 18–20, Young Life requested $2,733.50, which covered the cost to send 11 volunteer leaders. SGA approved the amount of $0 for the reimbursement.

For the college weekend, which was Sept. 27–29, Young Life requested $2,628. Young Life came to SGA earlier in the semester prior to the event but were not funded at the time because SGA members felt there was not enough information. SGA approved the amount of $0 for the reimbursement.

MOCK TRIAL

Sophomore Beth Bachman, competition coordinator for Mock Trial Club, and first-year Evan Engelhaupt, competition coordinator in-training, requested $1,676.02 to cover the expenses for the American Mock Trial Association’s Invitationals. (Engelhaupt is a columnist for the Trinitonian.)

The request covers the costs of case prints, registration fees, hotel rooms and meals for the 16 students attending the competition. The club has additional funding from 1869 Challenge donations and from winning the 1869 Challenge for having most gifts as a student group. SGA approved the full amount of the request.

DEBATE TEAM/TRINITY UNIVERSITY FORENSICS SOCIETY

Senior Ian Dill and sophomore Nate Glancy, on behalf of the debate team, requested $8,977.08 for the National Debate Tournament.

The complete cost of the trip is $14,403.62, but the team has gotten partial funding from the Department of Human Communication (HCOM), which will cover all but student expenses. HCOM will cover flights and hotels for the three debate coaches, gas and parking, team fees and coach fees. The SGA request covers the student fee for the tournament, which provides food and wifi to debaters, as well as flights and hotel rooms for the six students attending. SGA approved the full amount of the request.

INTERNATIONAL STUDENT AND SCHOLAR SERVICES (ISSS)

ISSS requested $2,444.19 for their annual Taste of Culture at Trinity event on Nov. 21. A bulk of that request, $2,531.96, will go to food, with the remainder for utensils and promotion for the event. SGA approved the full amount of the request.

VSA/CLC/JCC/PSA

Senior Alex Motter, Lunar New Year coordinator, presented on behalf of Vietnamese Student Association, Chinese Language and Culture Association, Japanese Culture Club and Filipino Student Association for funding for the annual event. (Motter is a member of the Board of Campus Publications.)

Motter explained that the budget is 20 percent less than last year’s budget, due to sustainable measures, such as reusing costumes, and by optimizing their marketing budget. Despite recent concerns about the relocation of the event from Laurie Auditorium, Motter explained that the event will still happen, just elsewhere on campus. SGA approved the full amount of the request.

ALPHA KAPPA PSI (AKPSI)

AKPsi, a business fraternity on campus, requested $4,612.90 to attend the Principled Business Leadership Institute, AKPsi’s annual flagship event. The even has four locations, but Trinity’s AKPsi chapter requested money to send six AKPsi members to the event in Vegas. The request includes the cost of flights, registration fees and hotel rooms. SGA decided to table the vote until next week to get a more accurate request for four people, rather than six.

MU PHI EPSILON

Senior Ciara McDaniel, president of Trinity’s Mu Phi chapter, and sophomore Max Genet, treasurer, requested $1,677 to send a member to the Mu Phi convention in Grapevine next summer. The request includes cost of hotel, flight and registration. The organization is required to send at least one member every year. SGA approved the amount of $0.

TIGERTHON

Senior Camden Lemond, Tigerthon finance chair, requested $1,677 for the organization’s annual dance marathon event. SGA approved the full amount.

SAAC

The student-athlete advisory committee (SAAC) reached out to adviser Jamie Thompson and Tinker about subsidizing 500 student tickets for the soccer and volleyball regional competitions. SAAC requested $1,500 for the tickets and an end-of-the-year banquet. SGA funded the full amount of the request.
