CLIMATE CHECK
Junior Senator Rohit Shetty started off climate check by noting that students had issues with the William H. Bell Center equipment and maintenance. According to President Joy Areola, students have also proposed that some machines are not used in the Bell Center, and could be replaced with other machines to benefit the overall student population.
Junior Senator Sabrina Cinque presented concerns over the City Vista apartment complex gym, as cardio equipment isn’t working anymore. President Areola said that money has already been sent over to assist with the maintenance of weight machines at City Vista, but no money has been sent to address the cardio equipment yet.
Sophomore Senator Madelyn Stovall asked to touch base on how students should submit dining hall complaints. President Areola remarked that SGA will connect with dining services at next week’s meeting. Chief of Staff Harrison Tinker clarified that pictures may be presented as evidence, but if not presented close to the day of the incident, nothing can be done. When sending in photos, send them through as soon as you see a problem.
Assistant Treasurer Khushi Kakadia requested that SGA agendas be made public, and President Areola clarified that SGA agendas and meeting minutes have been publicly available on the SGA website in the past, but that the website has not been updated recently. Chief of Staff Tinker mentioned an upcoming possibility that a QR code in the Trinitonian would provide access to a folder with all agendas and meeting minutes.
DEI Chair Trinity Hatchett expressed her concerns over the cleanliness of bathrooms and infrastructural issues in Elizabeth Huth Coates Library. SGA is looking into contacting Benjamin Harris, the dean of the library, custodial services and Ernesto Gonzales, associate director of Facilities Services. In addition, DEI Chair Hatchett and Collaborations Chair Dawson Wolff will be meeting about renovations in the library and the new welcome center.
According to Treasurer John Ferretti, Trinity University alumni have expressed concerns that requirements and standards in Greek life are preventing Trinity students from engaging with Greek life, and he asked to explore how to better implement standards. President Areola suggested that he should address his concerns over Greek life requirements and standards with Greek Council.
Senior Senator Jackson Delhagen mentioned that this upcoming week is New Voter Education Week.
FUNDING
Sorority Gamma Chi Delta presented a request for SGA to fund both the first and second rounds of rushing. The request for $1,500.00 was fully funded.
Fraternity Delta Sigma Pi presented a request to provide funding for six members of the fraternity to attend LEAD school in San Francisco. Funding would cover plane tickets, registration fees, hotels, food and Ubers. After being tabled over concerns about paying for food, the request was partially funded and $5,039.49 was granted.
The Filipino Student Association requested funding for Mabuhay 2024, a celebration of Filipino culture. Funding covered catering, advertising, fashion show materials and other miscellaneous items. The request for $3,855.98 was fully granted.
Trinity University Mock Trial requested funding for their invitational at Rice University, including registration fees, hotels, food and gas. After being tabled, the request for $2,299.84 was granted.
SGA allocated $14,300 to purchase tickets for Tigers Night Out in 2025.
The Garden Club presented requests for funding for both their community garden and the beautification of the library’s fourth floor. After concerns were raised over maintenance fees, whether the Student Activity Fund (SAF) should go towards the beautification of the fourth floor library and the price of plastic garden signs, the request was partially funded for $7,672.96.
SGA is looking into finding a baseline for funding student organizations’ food requests for upcoming trips after concerns were raised by multiple senators.
OFFICER REPORTS
Senator Delhagen announced changes in accessibility parking around campus. After the closing of the parking lot by Dicke Hall, more accessibility parking spots were added to the parking lot next to Chapman Center, and four more accessibility parking spots were added at the parking lot by South Residence Hall.
Senior Senator Blaine Martin updated SGA on his work with facilities about the water filtration systems, including communicating that the water is clean even with the red lights.
