CLIMATE CHECK
First-year Senator Nellie Clark stated that Chapman Center markers are being replaced following previous concerns. Senior Senator Johny Kousa remarked that one of the study rooms in the Chapman was locked but seemed perfectly usable. Vice President Allison Waters commented that students have to ask for a key from the departments in Chapman.
First-year Senator Pilar Mier has gotten no response from Trey Dunn concerning the price of printing for students after bringing up concerns in a previous meeting over free printing. President Joy Areola asked if the system used to get free laundry could apply to printing. Junior Senator Alexander Brown requested that a printer be added to Dicke Hall.
According to Junior Senator Rohit Shetty, the William H. Bell Center equipment will be replaced in 2028. Areola said that she is working with City Vista to replace cardio equipment.
First-year Senator Sydney Barner reached out to both the gardening club and Dining Services to collaborate on composting to address food waste disposal concerns.
FUNDING REQUESTS
The South Asian Student Association (SASA) requested funds for Diwali. Their theme this year is “South Asia through Time and History,” and their goal is to present and bring awareness to South Asian cultures. Their initial request was $4137.27, covering decorations, food, and other necessary materials. After reducing the cost of advertising, the amount of food and the cost of sparklers, SGA partially funded the request for $3664.13.
Mock Trial presented a request for their invitational from Nov. 2 to Nov. 3 at the University of Houston. SGA fully granted their request for $1811.76 to cover hotel expenses and fees.
Swing Bums requested funds for their annual Yule Ball, an event occurring since 2013. The Yule Ball has a masquerade theme this year and is being held on Dec. 7 in the CSI Atrium. The funding request covered food, decorations and the Smooth River Jazz Band for $2501.86, but SGA requested that funds for beverages, cookies and advertising be reduced. SGA partially funded the Yule Ball for $2186.71.
Senior Senator Johnny Kousa requested that both SASA and Swing Bums use their social media rather than spending money on physical flyers to advertise their events.
OFFICER REPORTS
Chief of Staff Harrison Tinker introduced a new Google form system for SGA members to give excuses for absences.
Areola requested that senators who were given assignments during climate checks follow up and keep notes. She also noted that sophomores can still apply to run for the open senator position, and asked senators to encourage their classmates to apply.
