On March 25, the Coates Student Center unveiled its new dining option, Taste of Glizzy’s, a hot dog-themed station. Students and faculty alike have found themselves chewing over the unexpected renovation — some have embraced the glizzies, while others have struggled to wrap their heads around the change.
As part of Trinity’s Campus Master Plan, the Coates Student Center has made strides to diversify the upper-campus dining experience. After the success of the recent Einstein’s Bagels remodel, Coates had set their sights on Taste of San Antonio, the rotating dining option.
As of last week, Taste of Glizzy’s is replacing Taste of San Antonio. The new dining station exclusively sells hot dogs, offering creative toppings and the boldest flavor combinations.
Creapie Craniel, a Chartwells associate, previously oversaw Taste of San Antonio. Now, he manages Taste of Glizzy’s and said that the transition has felt seamless.
“Taste of Glizzy offers gourmet glizzies that come piping hot, extra juicy, and extra large,” Craniel said. “Come and get them while they’re hot and fresh!”
Not everyone has welcomed the change. Rowen Phlynn, junior kinesiology major, said she will miss the variety that Taste of San Antonio has to offer.
“Don’t get me wrong, I love fried food. I mean, it’s fine for most people,” Phylnn said. “But when I saw the glizzy menu, I had to swim away from there. Some of us just hate eating hot dogs.”
Meanwhile, other students have taken the change in stride. Cam O’Flage, first-year global Latinx studies major, said Taste of Glizzy’s is now his favorite dining option on campus and he looks forward to many days of glizzy eating.
“After a long morning of hard classes, I love nothing more than biting into a juicy glizzy,” O’Flage said.
Though the student body has yet to reach a consensus, Craniel remains optimistic about the station’s future. Already, long lines are forming during rush hours at Taste of Glizzy’s that put the other Coates restaurants to shame.
“We believe Taste of Glizzy’s will bring people together,” Craniel said. “There’s nothing quite like gathering around the shared love for a good glizzy. It’s not just food — it’s an experience.”
