FUNDING REQUESTS
ALPHA KAPPA PSI: FUNDING DENIED FOR $3,385
Alpha Kappa Psi (AKPsi) requested $3,385 for a leadership summit at Mo-Ranch. The event would train and strengthen the organization’s future leadership, AKPsi representatives said. Associate Dean of Students Ben Williams said SGA has not historically funded events off-campus. While SGA would be allowed to fund the request, he said, it would set a precedent for other organizations to request similar funding for off-campus events. Junior Senator Darcie Gulick said AKPsi does not have to go to Mo-Ranch to conduct leadership training, and Senior Senator Alexander Brown said it could be done cheaper elsewhere, especially because AKPsi collects member dues. Senator Brown motioned to deny funding, and 11 senators voted in favor, with three opposed.
MOMENTUM 2026: FULLY FUNDED FOR $2,236.03
Momentum 2026 requested $2,236.03 for a student-run dance showcase in collaboration with Trinity’s dance organizations and independent dancers. Senator Brown motioned to fully fund, to which 14 senators voted in favor, with one abstention.
MUSLIM STUDENT ASSOCIATION: FULLY FUNDED FOR $4,289.41
The Muslim Student Association (MSA) requested $4,289.41 for an event called “MSA Showdown.” The three-day tournament-style conference with various MSA chapters features competitions, workshops, networking opportunities and celebration of the end of Ramadan. Senator Clark motioned to fully fund, to which 15 senators unanimously voted in favor.
MEN’S CLUB VOLLEYBALL: FULLY FUNDED FOR $12,451
Men’s club volleyball requested $12,451 for members of the team to compete at the 2026 NCVF Men’s Collegiate Club Volleyball National Championship in Kansas City, Missouri, between April 2 and April 4. This year, it began requiring teams to qualify for participation, and Trinity’s men’s club volleyball team qualified. Senator Brown motioned to fully fund, to which 14 senators voted in favor, with one abstention.
CLIMATE CHECK
Senator Clark, Senator Brown, Senior Senator Rohit Shetty and Inclusion and Belonging Chair Ayesha Ferrukh created a poll for students to share their thoughts on the foot pantry project. Senator Clark said she will distribute the QR code to members of SGA and encouraged them to distribute it to other students.
Senator Smith said many students have expressed concern about the upcoming tuition increase, especially without scholarships increasing. Mark Detterick, vice president of finance and administration, and Facilities Operations will be coming to the SGA meeting on March 18 for senators to ask questions related to the tuition increase, President Ratrut said.
Senior Senator Rosalie Leykum expressed concern about TUPD officers not patrolling City Vista. President Ratrut said TUPD is short-staffed and likely cannot have an officer at City Vista past 8 p.m. Senator Cinque said that especially with the tuition increase, TUPD should not be short-staffed.
Senator Brown said students have also expressed concern about paying for printing. President Ratrut said he and SGA advisors are considering potential ways to utilize carryover funds to start a pilot program, but there are logistical barriers such as sustainability, feasibility and the ethics of whether or not to give students money from the Student Managed Fund (SMF). Associate Dean Williams said Vice President Detterick is also chief financial officer and could be a good resource for issues surrounding the cost of printing.
First-year Senator Hannah Kim asked if students could be allowed to use two meal swipe exchanges per day instead of one. Senator Clark said the possibility of allowing two meal swipes is in the poll she and other senators created and that, during the SGA meeting on Feb. 24, director of Residential Life Rachel Boaz Toppel said it is something to discuss further.
Senator Clark said she recently asked a chef at Mabee about the logistics of distributing leftovers and was referred to the university’s dietician, whom she plans to contact about leftovers and her concerns about allergen cross-contamination.
OFFICER REPORTS:
President Ratrut said an email detailing the timeline, eligibility requirements and campaigning expectations for those running for SGA positions will be sent out on March 5. Applications will open on March 16 and close on March 21, voting will take place between March 23 and 25 and results will be announced in the Trinitonian on March 27.
