Welcome back from ASR

Dear Trinity Students,

As President of the Association of Student Representatives (ASR), I hope that everyone had a great summer, and I am happy to welcome you back to Trinity. This coming school year holds great opportunity for our campus and the student body. The University, under the guidance of President Ahlburg, is seeking to refocus, adapt and enhance Trinity as an institution and community. My goal for ASR is to implement this same spirit of change, not only in student government, but in our organizations as well. In my view, the best way to achieve this goal is through fostering collaboration between student organizations. My hope is that through this, we can begin to develop an even better sense of community among the student body.

I not only want to implement reform with the intention of creating long-term change in the University and student government, but I also want ASR to aid in creating noticeable improvements to campus life over the coming year. We have already furthered this goal by purchasing new computers for all the major student organizations on campus, providing students with free online access to the New York Times, and greatly increasing the budgets of organizations like the Student Programming Board, allowing them to bring in bigger name artists to campus, such as Sean Kingston, who will be headlining the welcome week concert this Friday. ASR will build upon these achievements by diligently working on parking, dining, and housing issues throughout the course of the school year.

With that, I invite everyone to contact ASR at [email protected] or visit our website at www.trinity.edu/asr to learn more about student government at Trinity. Additionally, all students are welcome to attend any of the regularly scheduled ASR meetings, held in the Waxahachie Room of Upper Coates starting on September 5th at 7 pm.  I look forward to hearing from you, and hope you all have a fantastic school year.

Joe Moore is president of ASR and a senior majoring in history and finance.
