At Trinity, welcoming new staff members not only means gaining qualified professionals to fill positions on campus, but also incorporating new strengths and ideas. Assistant director of campus and community involvement, John “J.J.” Jacobs, who joined the Trinity staff last semester, has been instrumental in forming a new spirit organization at the university.

The Trinity Spirit Organization, or TSO, has come together over the last few months and aims to promote school spirit campus-wide. Jacobs has already put together a group of students to create the foundations of the organization.

“I was contacted after participating in Orientation Team,” said sophomore Ivan Diaz in an interview via email. “They were looking for people to become a liaison between the student body and the university departments to promote Trinity spirit. When I was told about this new organization, I took full advantage of the opportunity.”

Members of the organization have some ideas in mind to create unity between Trinity students and university departments in an effort to  promote spirit.

“We plan to organize events, perhaps arrange transportation to athletic games, as well as pair up with other clubs and organizations on campus, like the Stand Band, that promote school spirit,” said junior Ingrid Harb.

The organization hopes to increase Trinity pride and school spirit in areas where they feel it is lacking. Harb says students should get involved to create a better sense of community.

“We all have that spirit, but we need something to bring that out,” Harb said. “If students want to help the university become an even better place, they should promote spirit, which will give us more of a sense of community.”

Like Harb, Diaz believes that students who want to see a change should get involved.

“This organization is open to everyone, from people who enjoy promoting activities to students who like drafting new ones,” Diaz said. “We have talked about the different personalities among students on campus and would like to be able to have activities for everyone.”

Some students who are not involved in the organization are excited to hear of its formation.

“It sounds like a great way to increase Trinity spirit,” said sophomore Hanna Niner. “Trinity students should have more school spirit because you only go here once, so you should have pride in the school.”

According to Jacobs, members of TSO are currently working on the constitution, and recognized organization registration. They hope to become a university-sponsored organization by next year. Students interested in joining should be on the lookout for information about an interest meeting in the near future.
