The Spring 2015 Choral Union concert, a grand annual performance between all three Trinity choirs and the full symphony orchestra, will take place at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, April 24, in the Parker Chapel.

“Our Choral Union is an annual concert between the combined Trinity choirs and the symphony orchestra. It involves all of our musicians in those organizations as well as faculty and staff members who also join the ensembles. It’s a large community event for us,” said Gary Seighman, director of choral activities and assistant professor of music.

Last year, the combined Trinity choirs performed with the wind ensemble and this year will mark a return to the tradition of performing with the full orchestra.

Gabriel Faure’s “Requiem” will be the center of the performance Friday night, with Seighman and John Thornton directing.

Trinity Choir, Chamber Singers and Voiox d’Esprit make up the combined Trinity choirs and, together with the full symphony orchestra, is around 175 student musicians.

The Spring Choral Union is the largest concert of the spring in terms of sheer production. Various elements are necessary in order to coordinate so many musicians performing at once.

“In a way, it epitomizes the liberal arts experience here at Trinity because we have a lot of non-music faculty and staff who join the choir so our students will find themselves singing next to their professors,” Seighman said.

According to Seighman,  both students and faculty look forward to the annual event.

“Students love it, and I know the faculty love it because it allows them to interact with their students in a completely different context where they are all showing their shared passion,” Seighman said.

The event is free and open to the public and will also feature a few alumni in the choir singing alongside students, faculty and staff.
