Award winning singer-songwriter Alyse Black brings her soulful sounds to San Antonio in this Friday’s free show. After moving from Seattle to Austin, Black has played over 600 clubs, theaters and festivals and has created a name for herself in the songwriting community.

Black was the recipient of Billboard’s Annual Songwriting Contest and The Recording Conservatory of Austin’s Top Singer-Songwriter Contest, and her music has been compared to the likes of Norah Jones, Eva Cassidy and even Adele. This show is a free, family friendly event that’ll kick off your first weekend in San Antonio.

Comedy queen Felicia Michaels is in San Antonio for five nights this week at the Laugh Out Loud comedy club. Known for her raunchy set, Michaels has been performing since the early 1990s and most recently has a successful comedy podcast called Beauty and Da Beast, with fellow comedian Joey Diaz.

Winner of the American Comedy Awards’ Funniest Female, Michaels has appeared on Comedy Central, A&E, MTV, Showtime and more.

In an examination of art, music, history, race, geography and social issues, Artpace presents Christian Marclay’s 14-minute video Guitar Drag. Created in 1999 following and partly in response to the 1998 murder of James Byrd Jr. by three white supremacists, Guitar Drag shows an electric guitar dragged by a pick-up truck “tied by a rope across a Texas roadway to its aggressive destruction.” Previously not shown at Marclay’s 1999 Artpace exhibition, Guitar Drag””ending on August 30″”makes its Texas premiere in San Antonio this summer.
