The evening before Sept. 11, Trinity’s chapter of the Young Conservatives of Texas (YCT) planted 2,977 American flags around Miller Fountain. With one flag for every casualty, YCT places the flags annually as a tribute to the victims of 9/11.

YCT president Clayton Lansford, engineering sciences and physics double-major, said he hopes that those passing by will take a moment to reflect on the tragedy of 9/11.

“Remember those who lost their lives, especially the heroes who saved a bunch of lives that day,” Lansford said.

Ten participants helped place the flags for an hour and a half on Sept. 10. Lansford invited anyone to help out in the future.

“We do it every year, so if you are around next year, feel free to help us out,” Langsford said. “It’s not a partisan thing or anything. It’s really just setting up a memorial. So next year, if anyone wants to come out and help out, anyone’s welcome.”

The flags stood until Friday evening, when YCT took them down until next year.
