Trinity has committed itself to becoming a “JED Campus,” collaborating with the nonprofit JED Foundation to improve student mental health services. The four-year program is a collaboration between various Trinity departments, working closely with the existing “Ready. Set. Rise.” strategic plan to reimagine an educational curriculum that strives for students’ success. More than 500 schools nationwide have joined the JED Campus network, with the 2024 Impact Report detailing that the program has helped to lower rates of anxiety, depression and suicidal ideation among students.
JED Campus strives to prioritize mental health beyond counseling services and the classroom, employing an interdisciplinary approach to help students practice healthy habits and feel a higher sense of belonging at university. In addition to enhancing counseling and wellness services, the core of JED Campus encourages faculty to be mindful of the different ways they shape students’ lives — from the overprogramming of campus activities to the hours of operations of the dining hall. What implementation will actually look like will be further fleshed out after data collection by the Trinity JED team through a campus-wide health survey.
