The Landa Branch Library, located one block away from Trinity on Bushnell Avenue, closed on Jan. 26 for repairs to its air conditioning, heating and ventilation systems.

Some services will still be available during the closure, and though there is no exact reopening date, construction is set to end in approximately four months.

Many students at Trinity use the Landa Branch Library to get access to books and movies that Elizabeth Huth Coates Library doesn’t have, and members will still be able to check out books from the library during the closure by putting a hold on them online and then picking them up curbside. Patrons of the library will also still be able to drop off books that they checked out before the closure.

The library’s playground and grounds will stay open during this time, and the free Wi-fi will remain available. However, the entirety of the inside will be unavailable throughout the construction period, including access to prints, library computers and programs like readings and art exhibits.

Carson Sparks, first-year psychology and English double-major, has been working in the San Antonio Library system since his senior year of high school. Sparks explained that all library staff working at the Landa Branch Library will be moved to other library branches, with one staff member staying at Landa to fulfill curbside orders.

“The SAPL [San Antonio Public Library] system is definitely a valuable part of San Antonio, and I can definitely see the direct impact from having it in the community,” Sparks said.
