Following the university’s email outlining the administration’s plans to handle possible Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) on campus, Trinity administration had updated their Safety and Legal Protections policy on their website.

The new policy states that any federal, state or local officers who come to campus are expected to follow all applicable laws, including constitutional protections and privacy laws.

Federal officers are generally expected to get permission from an authorized campus official or a federal warrant before accessing non-public areas, such as residential halls, of Trinity’s campus. The page states that Texas law prohibits public and private universities or local law enforcement from adopting policies “that block or significantly limit the enforcement of federal law.”

If a federal officer approaches a student requesting access to a non-public area of campus, the student should ask for the officer’s name, identification and agency affiliation. The page advised students to explain that they are not obstructing officers, but to consult and immediately call the Trinity University Police Department (TUPD).
