The university gave nine awards to 50 individual students at the 24th annual Student Leadership and Service Award ceremony on March 27, with some students winning up to three awards. Around 150 guests were in attendance, waiting for their students to be celebrated.

One of the award recipients, Karenna Edwards, senior neuroscience and business double-major, was the winner of three awards: the Inclusion and Belonging Award, the Coleen Grissom Continued Commitment and Dedication Award, and the Heart of Trinity Student Service Award.

“I don’t think it’s hit me that I was recognized so many times, and I just feel so great and so much gratitude to the Trinity community,” Edwards said.

Justin Gambone, assistant director for orientation and transitions, explained that most institutions only give each award to one or two recipients. At Trinity, however, it’s different.

“We really make sure that the number of students for that award matches what that award means, so there are some awards that get one [recipient]. There are some awards that can have about two to five. Some can have up to 10. Some can have up to 20 recipients,” Gambone said.

Gambone appreciated that multiple recipients are selected for each award, he said. Trinity students’ involvement on and off campus make them stand out from other college students.

“Our students aren’t just coming in to get their education and leave,” Gambone said. “They’re coming in to get their education, do some really good work on campus but also make some good improvements and strides in the community.”
