Are you voting?
“Yes.”
Why are you voting?
“I think it’s important to vote so that my voice is heard and politics are doing their thing.”
What are your thoughts on the election?
“I think it’s definitely interesting for sure. I feel like there’s polar opposites. I feel like we’re pretty divided as a country, but I have faith that things will work out hopefully.”
Isadora Crane, sophomore sociology major
Are you voting?
“Yes.”
Why are you voting?
“I think a lot of people don’t vote because they think other people will, and then people are surprised at the outcome of the election. It’s because not everyone is out there voting, and then we’re surprised at the results, and it’s because not everyone is participating. I think sometimes the results don’t represent what people actually want because not everyone is out voting. So I think to get a more accurate result, people need to be voting, especially younger voters turning out and voting. We’re the ones who are ‘the future,’ so we have to be voting for what we want for our future.”
What are your thoughts on the election?
“I think it’s a really important moment for democracy. Trump has basically threatened democracy with his talking about ‘This is the last election. This is the last time you’ll have to vote for me.’ What are the implications of what he’s talking about? I think it’s important that people vote because this could be a really imperative moment for voters and democracy and for the future if he’s elected. So I think that’s my opinion that we need to protect that for the future.”
JC Canlas, sophomore international studies major
Are you voting?
“Yes, I am.”
Why are you voting?
“I think it’s important for everyone to vote. I think it’s a way of us showing that we have power to bring people who we want to be in power.”
What are your thoughts on the election?
“I think it’s complicated. I know a lot of people are saying they’re trying to find the lesser of two evils and I’m kind of standing with that. But I still think it’s important to vote. I think not voting at all might not have the result that a lot of people are anticipating that it would.”
Sterling Shearer, sophomore English major
Are you voting?
“Yes, I am.”
Why are you voting?
“I think this election is really important for everyone to go out there and have their voices heard so that we can protect women’s rights. It’s our civil liberty. It’s important.”
What are your thoughts on the election?
“I think it’s really scary. It’s definitely giving me flashbacks to the 2016 election [with] a lot of the things that are being said about the Democratic candidate. I’m definitely worried, but hopeful that we will be moving forward and not backwards.”
Carolina Brechin, junior theatre major
Are you voting?
“Yes.”
Why are you voting?
“To protect my freedoms and just because this election is super important.”
What are your thoughts on the election?
“It’s a really important election. I think everyone should vote if they’re able to and to vote wisely and to read up on both candidates before actually voting. Just know who you’re voting for.”
Ruth Patterson, junior classical languages major
Are you voting?
“Yes.”
Why are you voting?
“I think it’s the baseline that any person should do if they want to have opinions about politics.”
What are your thoughts on the election?
“It’s bad out there. I think it’s a lot of absurdity that you can have. Just the general Trump years I think have been characterized by fascism. I think it’s kind of absurd that polling numbers are so close between the two candidates when there is so much violent extremism and just lies being chattered by Trump and the Republicans. It’s scary. That’s my take.”
