An international student from Islamabad, Pakistan, Ayesha Farrukh is a junior BAT and political science double-major is SGA’s new president. She has been involved on campus since her first year, including serving as president of Trinity’s Muslim Student Association (MSA), judicial chair of Sigma Theta Tau, Residential Assistant mentor and a university tour guide.

Though not on SGA her first two years, Farrukh has served as SGA’s Inclusion and Belonging Chair throughout this year. Within the position, she worked with campus organization leaders to expand SGA’s presence at cultural and religious events.

Beyond SGA, Farrukh’s involvement spans several campus organizations. As this year’s MSA president, she oversaw over 15 Ramadan iftars — more than the organization had ever hosted. As Sigma judicial chair, she reviewed and streamlined the organization’s governing documents to make expectations clearer for members.

“I would say the stuff I’m proudest of is in the Muslim Student Association this year, with Ramadan,” Farrukh said. “It was really nice seeing so many student orgs stepping up to want to collaborate with the MSA.”

As SGA president, Farrukh said she hopes to focus on practicality and transparency. She aims to address issues that affect students’ daily lives, particularly with dining, accessibility, housing and academics. Farrukh has proposed initiatives, such as free printing and more consistent communication between SGA and students, facilitated through public accountability deadlines.

“I think there should be direct communication coming from SGA to the student population,” Farrukh said. “[SGA] also has to move with what students are engaging with, whether that’s TikToks or whether that’s our Instagram. If that’s the stuff that’s getting the most views, that should be targeted.”

Farrukh is focusing on practicality because she said SGA and university-led projects rarely get seen through during students’
time on campus. She wants to change that, and she said with her, students will see actionable results within the same academic year. Her campaign slogan reflects this: “For change now, and not in five years; vote yes for A[yes]ha.”
