No. 17 Trinity men’s tennis and No. 10 women’s tennis ended the 2025-26 season on a winning streak amid rained out games. Men’s tennis beat the ranked No. 12 University of Mary Washington (UMW) on April 17, 7-0 and No. 30 Southwestern University on April 19, 6-1. Women’s tennis swept their final road games of the season against Rhodes College on April 11 and Millsaps College on April 12, taking each 7-0. Rain cancelled the men’s tennis second game on April 19 against Colorado College and women’s tennis match against Southwestern also on April 19.
Men’s Tennis: April 17 and 19
Men’s tennis returned home after sweeping their road trip, beating Rhodes 6-1 on April 11 and Millsaps College 7-0 on April 12. The Tigers hosted the No. 12 UMW Eagles on April 17. UMW arrived in San Antonio looking to extend their win streak to three games, whereas Trinity entered the game on a four-game win streak.
The Tigers set the tone early in doubles play. Junior Ethan Flores and sophomore Roshin Kamath’s 7-6 (7-0) performance against the Eagles’ Ryan Battaglia and Ryan Gipner handed Trinity the point to enter singles play with a 1-0 lead.
Trinity had a strong start in singles play, claiming the first three matches to extend their lead to 4-0, securing the win for the Tigers. In a close contest that followed, senior Aashish Dhanani skidded past UMW’s Ryan Gipner in a three-set series 6-3, 4-6, 6-3. A tiebreaker decided the remaining two matches, with a sweep at stake. Juniors Ethan Flores and Jerry Perry beat the Eagles’ Cooper Lehman and Jack Riordan, respectively, to cap off Trinity’s shutout 7-0 victory against UMW.
Trinity went into their next match against Southern Athletic Association (SAA) conference rivals Southwestern University Pirates on April 19. The Tigers won the doubles point and dominated the first three matches against the Pirates to begin singles play with the advantage, 4-0.
Trinity conceded only one point to Southwestern in Dhanani’s match against Parth Patel, dropping each sets 6-2, 6-1 to put the Pirates on the board, 4-1. Mirroring the prior day’s finish, the Tigers claimed the last two matches in tiebreaking sets to end the weekend with a 6-1 over their SAA rivals.
The weekends’ victories extended the Tigers’ win streak to a season-best six games, ending the season with a 12-7 record. Head men’s tennis coach Russell McMindes cited their most recent loss of the season against No. 20 Sewanee on March 29 as the turning point for the team.
“If we wanted to still chase our goals and achieve what we thought we were capable of this year, there was really only one option,” McMindes said. “And so that kind of got everybody to work, and then you could start chipping away match by match, kind of checking them off and moving on down the road. That gave us some clarity and gave us some focus. There was a very defined purpose in what was going to happen the rest of the season as we built up for this weekend for sure.”
Women’s Tennis: April 19
Women’s tennis traveled to Rhodes on April 11 and Millsaps on April 12 for their final road games of the season. Trinity decisively won both matchups, cleaning house with 7-0 victories. The wins mark the fourth consecutive shutout win for the Tigers, marking back-to-back seasons in which Trinity accomplished such a feat.
The Tigers returned home to begin play of their final home game of the season against the Southwestern Pirates on April 19, but rain ultimately cancelled the match. Ending their season with a 15-1 record, the Tigers finished the season undefeated at home.
“I think for us this year, everyone just had an awesome mindset, did a tremendous job just getting better every day,” head women’s tennis coach Drew Cohn said of the team’s success thus far. “We’ve just been really adaptable over the course of the year. We’ve had a really tough schedule, but I think just everyone’s approached it with a great growth mindset and just gotten a little bit better.”
Both teams will travel to Memphis, TN for the SAA Championships, which will take place this weekend. This will be their first appearance in the conference tournament after transitioning from the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference last year.
