Trinity fell to the No. 22 nationally ranked Rhodes Ccollege 1-2 during their April 24-25 series. The Tigers struggled generate offense to score after the third inning on Saturday, falling 9-33-9, but bounced back in game two with a 14-4 victory over the Lynx in game two.. The Tigers run-ruled Rhodes on Sunday afternoon, coming back 14-4, Trinity dropped but lost the third game 4-5 later that day, leaving with the tying run stranded left on base, 5-44-5. The Tigers also celebrated their 5 seniors: infielder Cam Champness, outfielder Nick Jones, pitcher John McGowan, infielder Khalfani Coney and outfielder John Adrian Dioli on Sunday in the final series at home of the regular season
Game One, Friday
Game one started as a close matchup between both teams, before Rhodes started pulling away in the fifth inning. The first game of the series started as a close exchange of hits from the two teams. After a scoreless first, Rhodes struck first with two runs in the top of the second inning. The Tigers responded with sophomore shortstop John Ramsey hitting an RBI double down the left field line. After giving up a run in the third, the Tigers tied the game 3-3 in the bottom half of the inning thanks to junior outfielder Mattias Rytting delivering a two-run single with the bases loaded. Rhodes went on to score six runs and held the Tigers scoreless for the rest of the game in a 9-3 loss for Trinity.
Game Two, Saturday
The Tigers bats were on fire in during the 1 p.m. game, buildingand went on an 8-0 run during the first three innings. Junior outfielder Kaleb Woodward and sophomore catcher Thomas Moss both had three hitswent 3-3 in game one. Jake Beck earned took the win after only allowing one earned run in five innings, and striking out four five5 batters.
Nick Jones started the second inning rally off with a single, sophomore outfielder Evan Kuhl followed with another hit. Woodward drove in two more runs with a double, and Thomas Moss, sophomore utility player, slammed a triple to add another run. Will Baker’’s sac fly finished off the inning with another run, bringing the score to 5-0. The Tigers loaded the bases again in the third, and Ramsey drove in the sixth run off of a sac fly. Woodward earned another two-2 run RBI to bring in the seventh and eighth run. The Tigers continued to put up runs until the run rule kicked in during the eighth 8th inning, winning game two 14-4.
Game Three, Saturday
Game three two was a much quieter game offensively, five5 of the nine9 total runs were scored in the last inning. The Tigers left a couple of runners on in the first inning, but scoredwere able to score a run after Dioli stole second, and scored off of Anderson’’s hit to take a 1-0the lead 1-0. The Lynx took tied the game in the third, and took the lead in the fourth 2-1 and scored their second run. The Tigers scored earned the tying run in the eighth 8th with junior outfielder Callen Singhania drawing a pinch hit walk. In the ninth, Rhodes was able to put runners on base off of a few walks and a hit batter, and reclaimed a 5-2 lead. Trinity responded The Tigers loaded the bases in the bottom of the inning by scoring ninth and scored 2 two more runs with the bases loaded off of Rhodes’ fielding errors., but Despite having the bases loaded, Rhodes held the Tigers them there and took the final game 5-4.
Trinity baseball The baseball team will head to Kentucky for a series against Centre College to finish off the regular season on May 1-2next weekend, before the SAA championships starting on May 7.
