For most of you, going off to college means going to a new city. Which, if you’re a sports fan, means moving away from the team you grew up watching. There is no need to get discouraged, though because San Antonio has something for every type of fan, and being a college student has its perks when it comes to purchasing tickets.

This year the Spurs came up a bit short in the playoffs, falling to the Oklahoma City Thunder, but don’t let  the lack of media coverage and talk about “an old team” fool you. The Spurs are exciting to watch, and, after living in San Antonio, their charm and team unity will win you over. Not to mention the deals they offer college students. In their first season, the Talons made it to the playoffs with an overall record of 14-4. Even though their season wrapped up this summer, the idea of football in San Antonio is exciting, and everyone should experience Arena Football at least once.  It’s not like going to a Cowboys or Texans game, but in San Antonio it’s the closest you’re going to get without breaking the bank “” tickets run as low as $8.

There is still time to make it to a few games this season. Tickets are just $5 for lawn seating (make sure to bring a blanket or chairs) and $8 for outfield reserved seating. Missions games offer a relaxed atmosphere with the excitement of baseball and good company. On Thursday nights, beer (for those of you of age), hot-dogs and sodas are just $1.

Even though they are sometimes neglected, the women of the WNBA compete at the same level as men in the NBA. In San Antonio, the Silver Stars also play at the AT&T Center. While it may not be the NBA, it’s still basketball, and tickets are much cheaper.

Playing at the AT&T Center (home of the Spurs), the Rampage compete in the American Hockey League. Games start in early October; keep checking their official site for the 2012-2013 schedule.
