New Trinity football and golf coaches look to start off strong

First-year students were not the only new additions to the Trinity community this month; coaches Sean Etheredge, Brant McAdams and Jerheme Urban have sprinted onto campus with purpose.

Starting the year off with a swing, the new men’s assistant golf coach, Sean Etheredge, is bringing in years of heart and soul as a professional golfer and instructor. After playing golf in college, scoring PGA certification and coaching gripping lessons at the Olympic Gym in San Antonio, Etheredge was interested by the idea of coaching a college team.

“Growing up in San Antonio, I was familiar with Trinity and the excellent reputation of the golf program,” said Etheredge.

With the help of a full roster this season, including many returning players, a solid group of first-years and a transfer student, Etheredge looks to utilize his coaching abilities to make Trinity a driving force in the golf world.

Like Etheredge, Brant McAdams is a leader in his field of expertise: football. As a member of Trinity’s class of 2006, McAdams is enjoying being back on his home turf. Ending his college career as a defensive end and captain of the football team, a return to football was not a question.

“Coming from a family of coaches…I always knew I would go into coaching,” McAdams said.

Nothing came more naturally to McAdam’s return to Trinity than running back to his former captain and teammate Jerheme Urban on the field. Urban “˜03 is one of Trinity’s most successful alumni to date. While at Trinity, he played defensive end and ran track for the Tigers, then shifted directly to the NFL after college. There he played for the Seattle Seahawks, Dallas Cowboys and Arizona Cardinals.

Urban, considered the epitome of Trinity football, is more than excited about passing his talents back to campus for the second half of his Trinity career.

“Our team this year consists of talented men with a hunger,” Urban said.

Tiger football opens the season on Saturday, Sep. 7 at Howard Payne University.
