Softball sees many cancellations due to poor weather

During the spring break week from March 6 through March 15 the Trinity softball team was scheduled to play 14 games.

Unfortunately, due to bad weather, eight of the games were either cancelled or postponed. In the six games the Tigers did play, they lost five and won one.

The Tigers started their games at home on March 6 with a double header against California College of St. Joseph. The first game the team lost 12-1 and the second game they lost 7-4.

On the next day, March 7, the Tigers had a doubleheader against University of Dallas, once again at home. The first game they fell 7-2 but bounced back to win the second game 5-2. The Tigers were scheduled to face Dallas again at home on March 8, but due to bad weather the doubleheader was cancelled.

The team was then lined up to play East Texas Baptist University on March 10, but the games were postponed due to rain.

Then the Tigers faced University of Texas-Tyler on March 11 and were defeated 11-0 in the first game and 12-0 in the second game.

Next the team was due to face Austin College in a four-game series on March 13 and 14, but the games were once again postponed because of bad weather.

Even though the Tigers have not had an ideal start and many games have been cancelled, they are optimistic about upcoming games.

“The season hasn’t been off to the best start because most of our games are getting cancelled. We definitely wish we had more games under our belt at this point, but we’ve been practicing a lot and have worked out some kinks. Our pitching has been looking pretty good. We’ve faced some tough teams, which helps the pitchers get ready for our conference games,” said sophomore pitcher Katie Glomb.

Sophomore outfielder and second base player Hilary Hoffman said, “The expectations are still there and holding strong. We are working hard in practice and we will see when we actually start playing conference games and see how they go.”

The main goal of the the team is to win the SCAC Championship, which is held from April 24 to April 26.

“The ultimate goal for our team this year is to win the conference tournament. We have come in second place over the last four years and it has been a tough loss each time. We are focusing on doing our best each day and being at the top of our game when we reach the SCAC Tournament in April,” said head coach Brandi Crnkovic.

On March 22 the ladies face George Fox University at home in doubleheader. The first game starts at 12 p.m. and the second game begins at 2 p.m.
