Student giving opinion about affordable dining options off campus

As the semester goes on, relying on Mabee, Steak n’ Shake, Taco Taco, Freshii, Revolve and Einstein Bros. Bagels for nearly every meal can get tiring. Fortunately, there are a lot of restaurants in the Trinity area. Trinitonian talked to some students and asked them for their favorite and affordable places to eat. Here are what some Tigers recommended.

Victoria Lee, senior communications major, recommends Down on Grayson, a restaurant that serves modern-American cuisine in a fun atmosphere. It is about a four-minute drive from campus. Lee also suggests Ming’s Thing, which has a cozy atmosphere and provides Chinese street food favorites. It’s received a “Best of San Antonio” award, and it’s around eight minutes from campus by car. Tiger’s Chinese Cuisine serves authentic Szechuan cuisine and delicious noodles. It is about a 20-minute drive from campus. For dessert, Lee suggests Black and White Modern Creamery, which serves “unique flavors far outside of just vanilla, chocolate, and strawberry” according to their website. This shop is a 25-minute walk from campus on Broadway.

Elizabeth Surbrook, a first-year biochemistry major, recommends the nearest Chipotle, which is about a four mile drive from campus on Broadway. They serve burritos, lifestyle bowls, salads and more. In addition, Surbrook suggested Raising Cane’s Chicken Fingers which is an American fast food restaurant that is known for its chicken tenders and trademark sauce. The nearest Cane’s is about a 10-minute drive from campus on Austin Highway. Surbrook also recommends Pizza Classics, which sells two pizzas for the price of one — 2 large pizzas are sold for $19.75. It’s located on N. St. Mary’s Street and is a walkable 15 minutes from campus. Finally, Surbrook suggests Cava, a Mediterranean restaurant chain. They serve healthy food and the nearest Cava is a 12-minute drive from campus on Basse Road.

Alex Varner, senior business analytics and technology major, Noel Coppedge, senior psychology major, and Tristan Smith, senior business analytics and technology major, all recommend Demo’s, a family-owned Greek food spot. The nearest Demo’s location is about a five-minute drive from campus on N. St. Mary’s. The trio also suggested Mr. Juicy, whose burgers have been voted “best” by the San Antonio Express-News and is located on San Pedro Avenue, a five-minute drive from campus. Finally, they recommend Main Street Pizza and Pasta. This mom-and-pop pizza joint serves pizzas, pasta, salads and sandwiches. It is located on N. Main Ave, about a seven-minute drive from campus.
