After a win over the University of the South (Sewanee) on the road on Nov. 1, Tiger football returned to San Antonio to play their final home game of the 2025 regular season. Trinity hosted the Millsaps College Majors on Nov. 8. With the postseason approaching, Trinity was victorious over Millsaps, winning 42-24.
The win extended their winning streak to four games, tying their longest streak of the season. The Tigers’ season record now stands at 8-1. Trinity is now 5-1 in conference play and second place in the Southern Athletic Association standings behind undefeated Berry College.
Offensive Coordinator and Offensive Line Coach Wade Lytal had two words on what the team must do in the last two games of the regular season: “Win ‘em.” He said that both Millsaps and Maryville College won big throughout the season and are good football teams. With the Millsaps matchup on Senior Day, Lytal spoke on what it meant to play at home one more time.
“We always love playing at home,” Lytal said. “It’ll be really good to get to honor our seniors in what could ultimately be their last home game. We just got to win, just got to keep playing, keep improving [and] keep playing up to the standard.”
The Tigers were scoreless in the first quarter against the Majors. Junior wide receiver Lamont Nickleberry fumbled during Trinity’s second drive of the day, giving Millsaps an opportunity to score. The Majors took advantage of the turnover, scoring a touchdown to take a 7-0 lead over the Tigers.
All three of the Tigers’ drives in the second quarter resulted in a touchdown, outscoring the Majors 21-3 and closing out the half with a 21-10 lead. Junior wide receiver Alejandro Tavarez accounted for two of the three touchdowns during the quarter.
The Majors opened the third quarter with possession, leading their longest drive of the game. The drive consumed over four minutes of the game clock, ending on a Millsaps fumble by running back Braxton Garmon. Sophomore defensive lineman Azriel Ngatcha recovered Garmon’s fumble, giving Trinity the ball with 10 minutes left in the third quarter. Sophomore running back Jason Love capitalized on the turnover with a ten-yard rushing touchdown, extending the Tigers’ lead to 28-10. Love’s touchdown against Millsaps is his second of the season.
“I’m going to continue [improving] going into my junior year,” Love said, “and I’m going to take as many people along with me as I can. Just me individually being better makes the team be better, and that’s what it’s all about.”
A touchdown by senior running back Johnny Milo added to the advantage and gave the Tigers a 35-10 lead entering the fourth quarter. A three-yard touchdown rush by senior quarterback Collin Bishop tallied onto the Tigers’ lead, making it 42-10, with ten minutes remaining in the game. Trinity staved off Millsaps’ 14-point rally in the closing minutes of the game, winning 42-24.
Trinity’s playoff future depends on how other teams perform and Trinity’s ability to beat Maryville. Sophomore wide receiver Tyson Hancock spoke on the playoff picture, saying that the team is taking it on a weekly basis and focusing on enjoying playing football.
“Playoffs [are] always fun,” Hancock said, “but I know it’s definitely not guaranteed, so I’m really looking forward to just keep on playing. I just love this team [and] I love what we do.”
The Tigers will wrap up the regular season on the road against Maryville College on Nov. 15.
