In the fall semester, Trinity captured three Southern Athletic Association (SAA) championships and sent all six fall teams to the NCAA regional tournament. Four advanced to the national championships, including three that finished among the Division III’s top-10 teams.
Trinity leads the SAA Commissioner’s Cup standings with 47 points, 15 ahead of second-place Berry College and 17 clear of Centre College. Nationwide, the Tigers rank fifth in the Learfield Directors’ Cup — the NCAA’s equivalent to the Commissioner’s Cup — after becoming one of four Division III schools with men’s and women’s soccer, volleyball, football and cross country advancing to the NCAA championships.
Men’s soccer reached the national championship final, finishing second among all Division III programs. Senior captain and midfielder Adam Knutson won the Division III men’s soccer player of the year. Women’s soccer also won the SAA championship, marking a sixth-straight conference title for the program. They came moments away from joining men’s soccer, volleyball and football in the last 16 of their tournament, but couldn’t score in the final seconds of regulation before losing to an Olimpico goal in overtime.
The volleyball team finished among the nation’s top four by reaching the national tournament semifinals. Football placed among the nation’s top eight with a quarterfinal appearance.
Men’s and women’s cross country each won the SAA Championship and qualified for the NCAA regionals. The women’s team advanced from regionals to finish 27th in the national championship meet.
With the fall seasons over, attention now turns to Trinity’s winter sports. Men’s and women’s basketball, swim and dive, and indoor track and field aim to keep Trinity in contention for the Commissioner’s Cup and the Learfield Directors’ Cup.
