It’s an opportunity for worshippers and holiday lovers alike to come together and celebrate before students leave for holiday break, so make sure you take advantage of the warm lights and love that the service has to offer. Afterwards, take a short walk to participate in Christmas on Oakmont, where faculty members will be offering snacks, cider and plenty of smiles. For all of those who refuse to celebrate Christmas in November, here’s the official start to our holiday season.

COCOA IN YOUR CAR | HOLIDAY LIGHT SHOW | Nov. 7–Jan. 4
It’s not quite freezing yet, but honestly, who knows when it might be. If you find yourself bummed out because your outdoor holiday plans just got cancelled, grab a couple of friends and ride over to The Light Park, where you can snag a ticket to see the glittering displays of Christmas lights and the whir of 10-feet tall inflatables. To drown out the motor of your car, tune into a special radio station with music lined up to exactly where you are on your private parade. The best part is that the venue is your own car, so make sure to fill your backseat with plenty of puppy chow and hot cider.

CAROLS ON THE RIVERWALK | RIVERWALK PARADE | Nov. 28
CAROLS ON THE RIVERWALK | RIVERWALK PARADE | Nov. 28
Yeah, sure, a parade on the concrete is cool, but you know how you could make it better? Find out by strolling down to the Riverwalk on Nov. 28, the day after Thanksgiving, where you’ll see the annual Ford Holiday River Parade. The floats will pass by you on water as you watch from virtually any spot on the river. Since most seats are ticketed, make sure you consult some of the maps available online for the free viewing areas if you want to keep your wallet tucked away. For those willing to open up a little, there are viewing parties at many of the restaurants along the Riverwalk, and most of these restaurants have beautiful mezzanine tables outside on the balconies. Of course, expect a handful of holiday vendors around the parade route. Who knows, maybe you’ll find the perfect gift while you’re out. Win-win!
Ford Holiday Riverwalk Parade • Nov. 28 at 6 p.m. • FREE (in certain viewing locations only) • Tobin Center • 100 Auditorium Cir.
