Filled with games, dancing and traditional Mexican foods, Trinity University Latino Association (TULA) hosted their annual Primavera Festival on April 2 at Prassel Lawn. Put on each year, the event celebrates the spring weather and serves as a small break to destress before finals season begins.
Excited students lined up for El Chistoso Elotes, who served fresh fruit and corn. To the left, a brick photobooth background decorated with brightly colored tissue paper and a hand-drawn sign stood for student photo opportunities. Students played games of lotería for prizes on the tables decorating the grassy field.
Kristen Padilla, junior neuroscience major, organizes TULA events and volunteer opportunities as the club’s outreach chair. She helped plan this year’s Primavera Fest with the rest of the TULA leadership team.
“It’s a team effort. It’s been something that we were planning all semester, so we’re really happy [with] how it turned out,” Padilla said.
Donna Sanchez, junior political science and history double-major, said this was her second time attending the festival. Across both this and last year’s events, Sanchez’s favorite part is the community it provides, along with the food that reminds her of home-cooked meals.
“Most of these people — I know all of them,” Sanchez said. “It’s having all the Latinos together, knowing them and being with people who speak your language.”
